Sustainable Holidays at Botenwirt

Sustainability is not a trend for us – but an attitude.
For us as a family, conscious living is a natural part of our everyday life. Erich, our senior and head chef, has always focused on regionality and on what comes directly from our garden or the small forests of Kleinarl, with a lot of sensitivity and appreciation for people, animals, and nature.

Out of Love for Our Place and Its Nature

Our Commitment
at a Glance:

  • Several years ago, we installed a photovoltaic system, which has already been expanded and supplemented with a storage unit. This system covers 1/3 of our total energy consumption. For the rest, we obtain green electricity from Salzburg AG.
  • Biomass from the plant in Kleinarl warms our rooms and the water. The delivered hot water also flows directly into our washing machines, so they need to heat up less.
  • In the bathrooms, we have installed water-saving showerheads that save 30% of normal water consumption
  • Our own fully electric vehicle ensures emission-free mobility, and at our two E-charging stations, you can also conveniently charge your cars. (For a fee)
  • We try to avoid excess packaging waste, for example, at the breakfast buffet, butter, cream cheese, Nutella & Co are no longer available in small individual packages
  • We have consulted with the initiative “United against Waste” (initiative against food waste) to reduce food waste, save costs, and protect the environment.
  • In summer, our natural swimming pond awaits you: refreshing and completely free of chemical additives. Simply enjoy naturally.
  • In all rooms, we have switched to natural cosmetics from the company Pure Green from Tyrol.
  • In our kitchen, we will now cook on induction and no longer with gas - this saves resources and energy.
  • Our printed materials are obtained in a climate-neutral way from the environmental printing company including CO2 offset.
  • Our drinking water, which is revitalized according to the Grander principle, comes from our own mountain spring – it doesn't get fresher than this!

Gitti and her herb garden

With great love and dedication, our senior manager Gitti diligently takes care of the garden around the house and processes the harvest, for example, rowan berries, rose hips, sweet woodruff, lavender, arnica, or marigolds into jams and syrups. From her dried herbs, she then creates her famous Alpine herbal liqueur and Swedish bitters.

And when chives, parsley, or nasturtiums from her herb garden land in the kitchen at Erich, they might soon refine and decorate your dish as well… very fresh, very honest, very Botenwirt.

Our Mountain Spring Water

In our current world, clean, healthy water is a valuable resource. Therefore, it is a stroke of luck that we have our very own water source that we would like to share with you. This fresh mountain spring water flows through our pipes, processed according to the Grander principle. Feel free to drink it directly from the tap or take it bottled from the restaurant, carbonated or not. If you’re interested, we would also be happy to show you where the spring is located in the mountains.

Suppliers and Producers

Whether it's the ingredients for our kitchen, the selection of our drinks and wines, or the materials throughout the house. We are consciously mindful of origin, processing, and value – because it is important to us that you really feel good with us. Of course, it is not possible for all products we use to come from the region or Austria, we must be honest. But we consciously pay attention to selecting as sustainably as possible. Always with the goal of serving you quality that not only tastes good but also feels good.
